Why do users of Nicotinamide Mononucleotide Report Many Seemingly Unrelated Benefits? The Role of NAD+ in our Bodies.
Hi everyone – thanks for agreeing to be part of a trial on our latest Bestlife product: Bestlife Agewell 2 in1. This product combines 250mg of NMN with 250mg of Resveratrol in a single, handy capsule or 50gram pouch.
Whatever our product line becomes over time, one thing is for sure – as long as it's in our power, Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) and Resveratrol will continue to be the base foundation of all our health supplements and products going forward. There are very sound reasons for this, and so before you guys commit to anything let me tell you a bit about what we are asking you to take. An explanation of NMN cannot really be understood without some information on the coenzyme NAD+.
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a coenzyme found in every single living cell on the planet and is essential for various biological processes. One of its key roles is in energy production through cellular respiration (feeding oxygen to your cells). In the process of glycolysis (the process whereby glucose is broken down in the body to produce energy) and the citric acid cycle, NAD+ acts as a carrier of electrons, which are used to generate Adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the cell's main energy currency. ATP is the source of energy for use and storage at the cellular level.
What does this mean – basically, NAD+ provides energy for every cell in your body. Without it we would die instantly. It is that fundamental to life. With this in mind, you can see that ensuring this process is highly efficient will be beneficial to virtually every process in your body. That is why the benefits to improving uptake and efficiency of NAD+ is showing beneficial results in a wide range of areas. I will discuss these in the final paragraph.
Apart from its role in energy metabolism, NAD+ is also crucial for DNA repair. It serves as a substrate for enzymes involved in repairing damaged DNA, helping to maintain the integrity of the genetic material. Additionally, NAD+ is involved in regulating gene expression, influencing processes like aging and immune response.
Overall, NAD+ plays a vital role in maintaining cellular function and overall health. Its levels can be influenced by factors like diet, exercise, and aging, and maintaining adequate NAD+ levels is important for optimal cellular function and overall well-being. The sad truth however is that as we age we produce gradually lower amounts of NAD+. Moreover, it is very difficult for the body to use NAD+ when we take it orally as the stomach acids break it down before the body has a chance to use it. This is not uncommon – it is what we call the bio-availability of a substance to be taken.
Many vitamins in the past, such as B-vitamins, had the same problems – we simply peed them out because our body could not transfer them in the raw form from the stomach into the blood stream ready for use in the body. We now source the methylated forms of these vitamins which makes them more bio-available.
NMN has been studied for a number of years now as a precursor to producing NAD+; and has been proven to drastically improve the production of NAD+. NMN has some issues with bio-availability but nothing like what is experienced when trying to orally administer NAD+. Some of favourite celebrities are administering NAD+ (like Kylie Jenner, Taylor Swift, etc.) via IV drip at some exclusive health clinics in the US.
David Sinclair (Harvard University) has recently discovered that another product called Resveratrol acts to make NMN even more available to the body to convert into NAD+. Resveratrol is also a great supplement on its own, and has been used for a number of years in cancer patients to fight that disease. Resveratrol is the active substance in red wine tannins. The health benefits of Resveratrol were stumbled across when a study showed that the French people had far less instances of heart-related chronic illness and death than other Europeans. It was found that the main reason for this was the consumption of red wine. Resveratrol is therefore also a fantastic product to protect the body against age related disease, while NMN has been shown to slow the entire aging process down. See David Sinclair and Neil Degrass-Tyson on Youtube for a fun podcast on this process.
The benefits to taking these two products occur over long time-frames – with an increase in energy (as you would expect from improving the energy performance at the cellular level) occurring at around 10 days, and then improved mental clarity, improved skin suppleness and elasticity and also I personally have experienced a reversal in grey hair (if this is just starting to happen to you). My skin is much better now, my eyesight is improving (this only occurs for age-related sight loss guys) and doctors are seeing a reversal in the age of internal organs, bones and eyes after taking this supplement for some time (see podcasts with Huberman and Sinclair).
This is great and means that when you take these products the benefits keep on coming (this is because, I believe, that the product does not target specific locations in the body or systems but targets and improves a fundamental bodily process that is required for all other bodily processes). I don’t think we’ve seen all of what NMN can do. Tony Robbins’ talks about labs that are developing lines of NMN, and his lab has been producing a type of highly bio-available NMN that Navy Seals are trialing. Tony claims that the Seals are reporting Marvel Comic-like results, across both physical and cognitive/mental ability, resilience and stamina.
