Nicotinamide Mononucleotide and Increased Energy Levels

The first change I noticed when I began taking NMN was an increase in my energy levels and general enthusiasm. I began with 250mg capsules taking one every morning, and then went up to 500mg per day with a capsule in the morning and one in the late afternoon.

At present I take around 1000mg per day and this I would say (in terms of milligrams to body mass) is about maximum for me. I’m a pretty big guy with significant muscle-mass and low body fat – not ridiculously low (a decent gym body for a 53 year old male). The average person taking 500mg to 1000mg – also age-dependent, should be doing well and clearly experiencing the benefits.

I have to say that I am highly sensitive to changes in my body, and can actually feel when my blood pressure may be too high, glucose levels, etc. change. In general, if you live a relatively clean lifestyle and exercise well and regularly, (don’t get me wrong here - I have plenty of the sugary and ice-cream-related bad habits, like many of us) you will feel the changes from NMN quite quickly and noticeably. I felt the changes in energy and mood levels from NMN in around 5 days from first taking it. In fact – energy was the first change I noticed when taking this supplement. I experienced not only a boost in energy but also a boost in mood. Abbey also found the same changes in energy levels – though her mood is generally very positive (in comparison with mine!).

Regardless of my experiences however, I wanted to take a look at the science and make sure that what I was experiencing was also likely to be experienced by others. There are few studies (energy related ones) that I could refer to at present but one in particular stood out. A study was completed in 2021 with long distance running athletes in Japan. The study concluded that the runners gained noticeable benefit in terms of increased oxygenation of the blood thereby lifting the ventilatory threshold when taking NMN. Aerobic capacity was improved with the improvement being muscular rather than cardiac. This is a great sign – showing that (at least in a limited study) NMN improves general oxygenation of the muscles resulting in increased endurance and performance.

For myself as a runner and as a gym goer - I feel greatly improved in mood and energy when I have been running or had a hard workout at the gym. This is not uncommon for a fitness buff, and I would infer from this that a general increase in oxygenation of the muscles through supplementation would also achieve this to some extent – potentially, in the non-active. I have found that using NMN has improved my workouts and my endurance at both the gym and in running, and this in turn increases my “workout or runners high”.

At Bestlife we are running trials with a test group at present, and this group will also have people that do not exercise in it. The group will be taking NMN and Resveratrol – via our new and unique Agewell 2 in 1 combination. It will be interesting to see if those that do not exercise regularly also experience improved energy levels. If you would like to know the results, sign up for our regular emails and when we report on the results you’ll be among the first to know the outcome.

Note: this is not a properly scientific study (double blind placebo which accounts for a variety of variables and is considered statistically significant) but one that we are running to essentially see whether users of our product report experiencing the same results as us.
